Professional Development

professional development

The board of the PMI Northern Utah Chapter (PMINUC) recognizes that professional development opportunities are important to its members.  The landscape of project management has expanded in recent years with the addition of new certifications like the ACP; the growth in popularity of Agile, especially in the discipline of Scrum; and the increasing importance of leadership and soft skills as the transformation from Project Management to Project Leadership occurs.  The board also recognizes that its members need ever-more-creative ways to get PDUs in order to maintain certifications.

As a result, PMINUC has greatly increased its partnerships with training companies in order to provide its members with opportunities to be prepared for Project Leadership now and into the future.  Visit our Exam Preparation and Courses page to see our current offerings.

Professional Development Conference

Our annual Professional Development Conference (PDC) is our flagship offering for our members.  It's a two day conference comprised of keynote speakers, multiple tracks with speakers covering all aspects of the PMI Talent Triangle that will expose you to both core concepts and new ideas, PM tool demonstrations, a service project, catered lunch and snacks, prize drawings, and the opportunity to network with 300+ people from across Northern Utah with a wide variety of project management and related experience.  There might be some PDUs involved, as well, but who needs those?

The conference will be held Apr 29-30, 2026 at the SLCC Miller Sandy campus.  You can find the latest updates on the PDC landing page.

Here are some comments we've received from past attendees:

It was great to meet in person with so many at a live conference!

I found this conference shifted focus to soft-people skills.  Especially around being emotionally intelligent in my relationships with people.  I was reminded that I need to take time to relax and work with people from a space of calm and even being out of the box.  This is powerful in that teams are people and while they get work done, they are the reason we work together and can do so much.

The keynote speaker that had us move front/back/right/left according to our "style." At the end, I scanned the different groups to find my team mates and it made sense that we work so well as a team. This exercise (I wish I had it written down!) was so valuable in highlighting team dynamics.

I loved the keynotes each morning. They were engaging and topics I found beneficial.

The helping package for the diaper drive was really cool and felt good to help out and do something a little more physical to break up the day.

Of course, we also receive more critical feedback, which we are grateful for and do our best to learn from so we can continue to make this a great experience for all attendees.
